Remah Homestay

Her name is Remah Abbas, but everyone calls her Umm al-Sa'ad. In Arabic, the word Sa'ad means happiness and Remah's family is the manifestation of a happy family ever after. With the full and genuine support of her six children, mostly young ladies, and Ameed the husband, Remah turned her house in Burqin village in Jenin Governorate into a cozy cottage for tourists arriving to visit Palestine and who wish to live in the heart of the country side. Smiling all day long, Remah understands how important it is that a tourist finds a soft pillow, hot meals and a friendly face away from his/her home.

After being involved in the homestay program organized by Rozana Association, Remah renovated her house and enrolled in further training courses to learn everything about hosting tourists.

Remah felt she needed to do something to realize her true potential and help her husband improve their financial status while at the same time live the life she wanted for herself. Remah and her daughters, who live in the same house, love meeting new people and are willing to get out of their way to make their guests comfortable. "I remember they began crying and said they did not want to leave us," with a shy smile Remah recalled the day when she bid farewell to the couple that stayed at her house.

Not only a guest, but Remah also has a good experience as a tour guide. Her husband, Ameed owns a commercial bus and drives tourists all around Palestine. Having a touristic mindset, this couple complement each other and understands what make a tourist's stay simply unforgettable. They furnished one large room, overlooking green fields and greenhouses that go beyond eyesight, for the sole use of their guests. The room is in the same floor where the Sa'ad family lives. "Once in my house, you become one of the Sa'ad's. If you need anything you simply come to my room and knock."

Still deeply in love as they used to be over 25 years ago, Remah and Ameed believe their children must learn to love everyone, be friendly, open-minded and understand the importance of cultural exchange. Remah is a proud mother, a loving wife that is mostly grateful for her beautiful family, but also for being able to do things she loves the most with her loved ones.
