Hanan Homestay

Hanan Salem, known as Umm Ameer, is a 40-year-old mother to five girls and four boys. She is the traditional Palestinian housewife who dedicated her entire life to serve her children and ensure they get the best education and care. Getting married at the age of 17, Hanan was not able to receive university education or enjoy her youth, but is now determined to start living to accomplish her dreams.

"When I was still in school, I remember I used to love sports and reading. After I got married, I no longer found time to myself. But after my girls grew up, I found someone to help me with the children and I decided to make time for myself." The home stay program is one of the first steps Hanan took in her pursuit to start living a new life. She heard about the program from her husband who is also a member of the BaniNaim Municipality and wanted to be part of it. She saw something special in opening her house to new people and learning about new cultures.

Hanan is very confident that her house would make a pleasant temporary home to guests from all parts of the world, because its surrounded with breathtaking green scenery, overlooks a deep and ancient valley and the house itself is quite large making it more than enough for the family and the guests. Hanan is also a great cook herself; while she didn't get the chance to host any people yet at her house for a sleep-over, she was approached multiple times to cook for groups visiting the famous and flourishing Abraham path that makes BaniNaim a hot touristic destination.

Even though Hanan has many children, she considers this as an advantage because her guests will benefit from the interaction bound to take place between them. "My children are learning a lot from the international guests who visit us. They are shy because they have never been exposed to new cultures and new faces and this program would help them become broad-minded and strong." Even Hanan was slightly shy the first time she hosted a group at her house, but after sitting with them and talking about life, Palestine and the world, she grew more comfortable and confident.

"Now I have something new to think about; a new experience that I can call my hobby." Abdul Rahman, Hanan's youngest child is probably her biggest supporter, because he tells his mother always about his desire to make new friends and eagerness to have great time with the guests and their children.

Hanan's philosophy that she plans to follow when hosting people is to leave the choice for them in doing everything. An early bird, Hanan will make sure her guests wake up early in the morning to exercise and enjoy Palestine's refreshing sunrise.  She will also give her guests the freedom to choose to either experience Palestine's social life or simply enjoy the comfort of her house.
